At the beginning of 2020, we meet Timo Vantyghem, the brand-new socio-cultural worker at community centre Nekkersdal. He enthusiastically joins the story of Masir Avenir, a project by bon (the agency for civic integration), which Lasso/Move It Kanal is supporting.

CC Nekkersdal has a highly motivated team and its own infrastructure. They are happy to make this infrastructure available to groups of young people, such as our Masir Avenir group. A perfect combination, especially when you consider that bon has an increasing number of young people who want to showcase their artistic talents to an audience.

This is how the plan to set up a festival for and by young people came about. The festival will be part of 'Bewogen', a week full of events that connect old and new Brussels residents.

For four consecutive Wednesdays, our young people meet up with young people from youth house Miks (D'broej). They brainstorm, rehearse and, above all, create. Suddenly, there was a name for the festival: 'C'est bon in Laken' (= it's good to be in Laken). A logo followed, then a slogan, all 100% homemade! The young people also took care of the preparations, technical support, sound mix, etc.

On the big day, Nekkersdal buzzes with energy: youngsters from the Habbekrats and Mosaïc youth centres create a graffiti artwork together under the approving eye of artist Régis Bour. The Hashet collective prints tote bags while the kitchen fills with delicious smells. At 6 pm, everyone sits down for the World Buffet and then it's time for music: rap, beatbox, slam and a performance by the group WEGGEVOERD from youth centre 't Mutske (Laken). C'était bon!

Relive the atmosphere with the photo album.
